The easterly county of Suffolk is situated in the East Anglia region and has a population of around 670,000. Suffolk has borders with three other counties: Cambridgeshire, Essex and Norfolk. Along with the Norfolk Broads to the north, the Suffolk Broads form The Broads National Park, a strong tourist attraction. The Suffolk Coast and Heaths, bordering the North Sea are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
As with most of East Anglia, Suffolk is a low lying county and has problems with coastal erosion. Its county town is Ipswich, sitting on the River Orwell Estuary. Other important towns include Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe and Lowestoft.
